RICHMOND, Va. (Feb. 25, 2012) -- George Mason swimmer Ashley Danner, Old Dominion swimmer Arni Arnason and George Mason diver Derrick Butts each competed and well represented the CAA at the 2012 NCAA Division I NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships recently.

Old Dominion senior swimmer Arni Arnason reached Honorable Mention All-America status as he finished in 11th place in the 100 breaststroke. Arnason qualified for the Friday evening's consolation finals after swimming to an 11th place finish in the preliminaries with a time of 53.07, .05 seconds off his own school and conference record set at the 2012 CAA Championships in late February, which qualified him for the NCAA Championships.

In the consolation finals, Arnason clocked in with a time of 53.24 to finish in 11th place. Arizona' Kevin Cordes took the 100 breastroke event in a time of 51.71.

Arnason concludes his career as one of the most decorated Monarchs in ODU men's swimming history.

Senior Derrick Butts became the first George Mason men's diver to advance to the highest level, and this weekend he represented the Patriots well at the NCAA Championships, taking place at the Weyerhauser King County Aquatic Center.

In the 3-meter diving competition on Friday, Butts placed 23rd in the preliminaries with a total score of 337.10, while on Thursday, Butts's total score of 258.35 ranked 29th among the field.

Stanford's Kristian Ipsen captured the 3-meter title with a score of 469.20 while Drew Livingston of Texas won the 1-meter crown with his 448.10 point total.

Butts finishes his career with record-breaking performances throughout the season en route to sweeping the CAA diving titles at the conference championship meet in February, and is the school record holder in both the 1-meter (374.00) and 3-meter (395.17) dives.

Senior swimmer Ashley Danner concluded her Mason career by swimming the 200-yard breaststroke in the National Championships on last weekend in Auburn, Alabama on the campus of Auburn University.

After being seeded 13th before the event, Danner placed 5th overall with a time of 2:08.49.  Danner was the top placing senior at the event and the only student-athlete from the CAA to qualify.

Overall in the tournament, Danner finished 32nd overall in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:59.40, 2nd in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.02 before her fifth place finish tonight.
