JMU’s Smith Obtains Second Straight CAA Men’s Golfer of the Week – Oct. 23

RICHMOND, Va. (October 23, 2013) – James Madison junior Trey Smith was awarded his second straight CAA Men’s Golfer of the Week accolade after strong finish at the Old Dominion/Outer Banks Collegiate.

Smith concluded the ODU/OBX Collegiate tied for sixth place amongst the individuals on the par 71, 6,550-yard Kimarlic Golf Club in Powells Point, N.C.  The junior recorded his second straight under par round, tying a season-low 4-under 67 in the final round of the tournament to finish at 3-under 210 (75-68-67). It was Smith’s third top 8 and fourth top 15 finish his five fall tournaments for the Dukes. The Virginia Beach, Va., native has scored seven rounds in the 60’s this season, eight rounds under par and is leading JMU with a 71.60 stroke average in 15 rounds played.  The Dukes have concluded play for the fall season and will now prepare for the 2014 spring season which will begin Jan. 27-28 at the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tuscon, Arizona.
