All CAA institutions participate in the annual “CAA Have a Heart Blood Drive”. Each year, the student-athletes at Drexel University work extremely hard to get the entire campus’ support for the annual blood drive, and this year was no exception. The Dragons kicked off their blood drive campaign with a Welcome Back event held the first Friday of classes at a men’s soccer game held under the lights. Hundreds of students sporting their red blood drive t-shirts came out to start off the new school year, cheer on the men’s soccer team, enjoy food, and promote the drive.
In the weeks leading up to the actual blood drive, Drexel students and student athletes came together to promote the blood drive and sign up potential donors. Bright red t-shirts could be seen across all three of Drexel’s campus for weeks, and eager students urged fellow classmates, professors, and staff to “have a heart.” By integrating and working with various campus organizations, such as the Drexel Red Cross Club and Greek Life, Drexel student-athletes were able to signup over 950 donors prior to the day of the blood drive.
On the day of Drexel’s blood drive, November 2, over 100 student volunteers assisted the Red Cross in collecting over 700 pints of blood from 789 donors. The overwhelming efforts of Drexel’s student-athletes helped make this blood drive Drexel’s most successful in the history of the CAA Blood Drive Challenge.
