The Drexel University Athletic Department and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee presented Drexel Dream Day 2006 on Friday November 3rd, a community event reaching 700 inner-city students, grades 3 – 5, from 7 Philadelphia Charter Schools. Drexel Dream Day was built around the women’s basketball exhibition game between Drexel and Philadelphia University and the NCAA Stay in Bounds Program.
Students received their “pre-game” materials before they arrived on campus. The “pre-game” materials included an explanation of the NCAA Stay in Bounds RICHER Principles Program. Each School was asked to educate their students about the importance of Respect, Integrity, Caring, Harmony, Excellence, and Responsibility in the classroom, on the playing field, and in life. In addition to the “pre-game” materials, the elementary school children were asked to create posters to bring to the basketball game highlighting a RICHER Principle. During the event, the RICHER principles were reinforced through fun and interactive activities.
