ATLANTA, Ga. (December 12, 2006) – Nearly 500 toys were collected by Georgia State student-athletes during their first-ever "Toys for Tots" toy drive, which was held in conjunction with Georgia State Auxiliary and Support Services and the Marine Corp Reserves (MCR).

The Georgia State Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) teamed up with Auxiliary Services and MRC for two weeks, beginning Nov. 27 to Dec. 12 to encourage the campus community and the Georgia State Athletic Department to donate to this worthy cause. The Auxiliary Services and Marine Corp Reserves toy drive ran from Nov. 1 to Dec. 12.

Student-Athlete Development Advisor Rachel Fineberg helped spearhead the toy drive. "This is the first year our SAAC group has been involved with the Toys for Tots drive and we far exceeded our expectations," Fineberg commented.

"We created the SAAC Giving Tree where each ornament represents a toy that was donated. Our biggest donation day was the December 7th game against Florida State. We collected well over 200 toys that night so the event went really well.

"I'd like to thank all of our student-athletes and especially the volleyball, women's soccer, women's golf and softball teams for their volunteer help throughout the past two weeks. I would also like to thank the Greek student organizations, and especially, Zeta Tau Alpha, for all of the toys they donated on Dec. 7th."
