During the week of November 12th- 22nd, the George Mason's Student Athletic Advisory Council (SAAC) initiated a food and money collection, in conjunction with the University’s initiative to serve those in need throughout the course of Hunger and Homelessness Week, a yearly community initiative geared to recognizing those in needs through various community building initiatives. Throughout the ten days of service, SAAC had encouraged its members as well as various teams to contribute a portion of their busy schedules to encourage students and other members of the Mason community to generously donate any canned perishables or monetary left over’s.
As a result of their collective effort and mutual support from their donors, SAAC had filled their jars and expectations by collecting approximately $250 and over 500 canned goods. The items collected went to local charitable organization in need of both monetary and perishable support. Without the leadership of Alex LaCoste (President of SAAC) and the help and support from the members of Women’s Tennis, Rowing, Volleyball, Rowing, Softball, Lacrosse, Masonettes, Men’s Track and Field/Cross Country, Golf, Soccer and Volleyball, none of this would have been possible.
