Field Set for 2013 CAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship
RICHMOND, Va. (April 28, 2013) – The field is set for the 2013 CAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship. Hofstra clinched the final berth into the championship with its 12-10 victory over Drexel in yesterday’s regular season finale. Towson enters the tournament as the top seed.
The championship, which will be hosted at Towson University in a final four format, begins Friday, May 3 in Towson, Md. The action kicks off at 1:00 p.m. in the first semifinal as top-seeded Towson (8-8, 6-1 CAA) takes on fourth-seeded Drexel (11-6, 4-3) at the Towson Center Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. The second semifinal features second-seeded James Madison (11-5, 6-1) taking on the third-seeded Hofstra (10-7, 4-3). The championship game is set to take place Sunday, May 5, at 1:00 p.m.
Towson, who will be hosting its third straight CAA Championship, is vying for its second consecutive conference title and fifth overall. The Tigers finished the season with a 6-1 mark in CAA play and earned the top seed as a result of its 16-10 victory over James Madison on April 7th. The second-seeded Dukes enter the tournament also with a 6-1 mark this season in conference play and sit at 11-5 overall highlighted by a 9-8 overtime victory over No. 11 Loyola on March 16th. JMU, who is receiving votes in the latest IWLCA Coaches Poll, is seeking its ninth CAA title.
Hofstra, who has one CAA title in eight appearances in the championship, earned the three seed by virtue of its 6-5 win over Towson on April 19th. The Pride finished 4-3 in conference play this season to help compile a 10-7 overall record, its sixth ten-win season in the last nine seasons. Drexel edged Delaware for the fourth seed by knocking off the Blue Hens 11-6 on April 19th. The Dragons, who sit at 4-3 in conference play and 11-6 overall, will be looking to win its first ever CAA title in its third straight appearance in the tournament.
