CAA Represented At 2012 London Olympics
The 2012 Olympic Games in London, England begin next week and there will be plenty of former athletes from CAA schools competing.
Representing George Mason will be men's basketball player Tony Skinn, who will compete for Nigeria, track and field standout Richard Phillips, who will represent Jamaica, and swimmer Kate Ziegler, who will compete for the United States in the 800 freestyle. In addition, Samyr Laine, a track and field volunteer assistant coach, will compete in the triple jump for Haiti.
Old Dominion will have five former athletes in the Olympics. Anna Tunnicliffe and Debbie Capozzi will be participating for the United States sailing team in match racing. Caroline Nichols will be a member of the U.S. field hockey team for the second time. CAA Swimmer of the Year Arni Arnason will be competing in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke for Iceland, while sophomore Sidni Hoxha will be swimming the 50 freestyle for Albania.
Hofstra will be represented by women's basketball player Lizanne Murphy, who will be competing for Canada.
Representing James Madison will be swimmer Eva Hannesdottir, who will be competing in the 400 medley relay for Iceland. Also, Jakob Wukie is a member of the U.S. men's archery team while Cindy Bevilacqua is team leader for the U.S. women's archery squad.
Former Drexel rower Stephen Kasprzyk will be competing for the United States in the men's eight boats.
Former Georgia State student Jeff Larimer is a member of the U.S. kayak team. In addition, Christa Mann, an All-CAA women's soccer player for the Panthers, will be in London while working in the public relations department for the United States Olympic Committee.The Olympics will be held July 27-August 12 and can be viewed via the CAA's new television partner, NBC Sports Network, as well as the rest of the NBC family of networks and online at NBCOlympics.com.
