Verburg Named USTFCCCA Southeast Region's Men's Track Athlete of the Year
NEW ORLEANS (June 4, 2012) - George Mason junior David Verburg has been named the Southeast Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Monday for the 2012 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field season voted on by the nation's coaches.
Verburg was the 400 meter champion in a meet record 45.06 and also scored in the 200 and 4x400 relay at the CAA Championships to earn CAA Track Performer of the Meet honors. The IC4A Champion in the 400 meters has a best time of 45.08, which is second in the NCAA and sixth in the U.S. currently. The Lynchburg, Va., native anchored the top seeded 4x400 relay to a time of 3:03.82
Considered a favorite for the 400 meter national title, Verburg will compete at this week's NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, June 6-9. NCAA.com and ESPN3.com will carry live coverage starting Wednesday. ESPNU will air live coverage on Saturday, June 9, starting at noon.
