Poma Earns All-America Honors

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra senior outfielder Danny Poma earned the first All-America honor of his career Thursday when he was selected to the Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball Newspaper first team.

Poma completed a record-breaking 2012 campaign that saw him bat .430 with a school record 102 hits, 32 doubles and 78 runs. He also added seven home runs, 48 RBIs and 29 stolen bases. Poma currently leads the nation in doubles and runs, and ranks second in the nation in batting and hits. He also ranks among the national top 10 in total bases (6th-155) and on-base percentage (5th-.500), while his 29 steals place him 25th in the country.

A native of Monterey, CA, Poma is Hofstra's first ever first team All-American in baseball. He joins Greg Polli, Paul Fahs and Matt Prokopowicz as the only other Hofstra players to earn All-America honors. Polli was an All-America selection in 1985, while Fahs (1998) and Prokopowicz (2007) were Freshman All-America selections.

Poma helped Hofstra to a 34-22 overall record, a 20-10 CAA record and a second place finish in the Colonial Athletic Association this past season. The overall and conference win totals were both school records and the Pride's second place finish was its best since joining the CAA in 2002.

The All-America accolade is the latest honor for Poma, who was named the CAA Player of the Year as well as a first team all-conference selection. He is also a semifinalist for both the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy. The Golden Spikes Award is presented to the top amateur player in the country by USA Baseball, while the Howser Trophy is awarded to the top collegiate player by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
