WRESTLING NOTEBOOK: MONARCHS HELP OUT IN LOCAL COMMUNITY

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University wrestling has been helping out in the community. The Monarch wrestlers have done several community projects, including helping out families that had damages during Hurricane Irene and several other projects.

Starting last December, the wrestlers have been volunteering for Edmarc, a hospice for children. A few weeks ago wrestlers went to the headquarters of Edmarc and cleaned up the grounds and two memorial gardens. The gardens are used by the families who have lost children.

LADY MONARCHS HOST NORFOLK PUBLIC SCHOOL CHILDREN

NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University women's basketball program hosted 1,924 Norfolk public school students and teachers on Dec. 21 for its contest against Maryland Eastern Shore at the Ted Constant Center. The children represented 13 elementary schools in Norfolk, who were provided discount tickets for the game and meal vouchers at the concession stands. Larchmont Elementary was awarded first place in the overall school attendance competition with 330 students and teachers at the game, while Richard Bowling Elementary finished second. Both schools won a free pizza party at their respective schools with the Lady Monarch basketball team. The contest was played at 11:30 a.m. to accommodate the school bus schedules and coincided with the students final day of classes prior to the holiday break.
