NEWARK, Del. (January 19, 2012) - This past Monday some
athletes from the University of Delaware participated at the Martin Luther King
Day of Service at Sanford School in Hockessin, Delaware. Members from the
men's and women's basketball team and women's volleyball team joined together
with the Sanford kids from junior kindergarten through twelfth grade to take
part in various service projects in their community. Some of these
projects included clothing and book donation, serving at soup kitchens, cooking
buscuts for the poor, cleaning up a cemetery, wrote cards for habitat for
humanity, and made lunches for the habitat for humanity workers. Sanford
school wants to teach their students to have hearts for service and the
Delaware athletes served as
positive examples for the younger students.
