NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (December 12, 2011) -- Members of
the William and Mary Football team recently participated in "International
Education Week" at Jenkins Elementary School in nearby Newport News, Va. on
November 16, 2011. Redshirt junior Jabrel Mines and redshirt senior Terrell
Wells attended the event and spoke with students about the importance of
working hard in the classroom and on the football field. The students
gave a warm response to the visit. The cafeteria had to be quieted on
several different occasions because the students were so excited to have
several of William and Mary's finest student athletes meet with them. Cornerback Wells enjoyed the visit, noting, "I don't have any younger siblings
so it was touching to see a group of younger individuals looking up to me as a
role model." Overall, the Tribe's involvement in International Education
week was an amazing experience for the players who visited, as well as those
associated with Jenkins Elementary. Sophomore lineman Matt Crisafi stated,
"Tribe football's involvement in the community, specifically the youth, is
something we take great pride in and will continue to do." The team also supports larger SAAC
initiatives, including collection and delivery of Thanksgiving food baskets to
two outreach centers in the local community.
