YORKTOWN, Va. - The William and Mary Tribe baseball team continued with its strong tradition of community service on October 15, when the team volunteered at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Walk that took place at Yorktown High School.
"We are so grateful to the organizers of the JDRF Walk for allowing us to be a part of their special day," Tribe head baseball coach Frank Leoni said after the event. "Special thanks to Sandy Turbeville for giving us the opportunity to participate. The JDRF organizers do an outstanding job of creating awareness for Type I Diabetes and the lives it affects. We are very proud to be a part of their fund raising efforts which amounted to more than $47,000."
Arriving at the event at 7 AM, the Tribe coaching staff and players helped the event organizers set up tables, chairs, tents, and signs marking the course. Once the event began, the players and coaches manned various stations including a popcorn stand, an ice cream truck, a dunk tank, and also greeted participants as they crossed the finish line.
