TOWSON, Md. - Members of the Towson Department of Athletics and teams will be competing in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Sunday, Oct. 23. The event is a 5K walk/run in Hunt Valley to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research.
The Towson "Pink PAWS" team is composed of 105 members, including members of the softball, men's lacrosse, women's basketball and gymnastics teams along with their coaching staffs. In addition, Director of Athletics Mike Waddell, Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance Lindsey McDonnell, Academic Advisors Ramone Cooper and Geoff Gordon along with Assistant Manager for Facilities and Events Steve Zamagias will be running.
The team is being captained by Assistant Director of Athletics for Academic Achievement Bobbi Madison and women's basketball senior guard Meredith Kennedy. As of Thursday morning, the group has already raised over $9,000.
"I was very overwhelmed with the amount of support we've received," said Kennedy. "Bobbi and I had to change our goals several times because we were exceeding the original expectations quickly."
Kennedy added, "I'm so excited about our success so far and look forward to keeping it going."
