WILMINGTON, Del. (May 31, 2011) - Coming off one of the program's most successful seasons,  the University of Delaware men's soccer staff, led by sixth-year head coach Ian Hennessy, will take part in the fifth annual Prevent Child Abuse Delaware (PCAD) 5K and Mile Family Fun Run on Wednesday, June 8.

The Delaware men's soccer team will serve as a sponsor for the race, which will be held in Rockford Park in Wilmington, Del., with Hennessy and his assistant coaches, Keith Duncan and Matt Haney, serving as marshals on the five-kilometer course, helping to direct participants along the path.

The entry fee for the race is set at $18 if participants pre-register and $22 the day of the event. More information and online registration can be found by clicking here. The overall top finishing male and female will receive awards, as will the top three finishers in 10 different age categories.

"Our staff works year-round with young children, coaching, running clinics at local schools and clubs, and inviting them to games on our beautiful campus," commented Hennessy, who guided the team to its first-ever berth in the Colonial Athletic Association tournament this past fall. "We became interested in this particular cause primarily through conversations with one of our soccer alums, Andrew Gonser, who serves on the PCAD board. Andrew's idea and the PCAD cause is a natural fit for us and we have been delighted to be able to help since its inception five years ago. Last year it was nice to have Beau Biden, the state Attorney General, join us during the evening."

Gonser was a letterwinner on the Blue Hen men's soccer team in 1996 and serves on the PCAD board. Gonser's law firm, Gonser and Gonser, P.A., is also a
sponsor of the race.
