BOSTON (Aug. 5, 2010) - The Northeastern women's basketball team welcomed a group of local
students to campus on Thursday, as part of an educational initiative
sponsored by the Boston YMCA. The students, enrolled in grades eight
through ten, are participating in a summer program in which they are
exposed to different colleges, careers and activities in the Boston
area. Members of the women's basketball program spoke to the students
about what it takes to participate in collegiate athletics at the
Division I level. The students also learned about other opportunities to
be involved in sports, such as playing on a recreational or club team
and serving as a manager of a team. Students were also informed about
employment opportunities regarding athletics and how many Northeastern
students hold work-study positions involving sports.
