RICHMOND, Va. - The VCU Athletic Department honored Gordie Day, to recognize
Gordie Bailey, an 18-year-old freshman at the University of Colorado at Boulder
who died from alcohol poisoning as a result of a fraternity initiation ceremony
for pledges on September 17, 2004. On
Monday, October 18th, VCU Student-Athletes displayed green flags on
the VCU James Branch Cabell Library Lawn to recognize Gordie and the 1700 students
who die each year from alcohol poisoning.
The VCU Athletic Department has partnered with The Gordie Foundation to promote awareness through the hands of students to spread the word about the dangers of alcohol misuse, including binge drinking, hazing, and alcohol poisoning, and their many serious consequences.
