WILMINGTON, N.C. - UNCW assistant men's basketball coach Jamie Kachmarik will participate in the nationwide "Shots From The Heart" initiative on Thursday to benefit the American Heart Association.

The first-year aide for Buzz Peterson is matched up against Butler's Darnell Archey in the bracketed competition being sponsored by CollegeInsider.com. Peterson will square off against Memphis head coach Josh Pastner next week. Kachmarik will shoot at 1:30 p.m. at Trask Coliseum.

The project, designed to honor the memory of former Wake Forest coach Skip Prosser, features two 64-coach fields in an NCAA Tournament bracket format.

Peterson and Kachmarik will each shoot 25 free throws. The results will be forwarded to Angela Lento of CollegeInsider.com, who will complete the brackets and schedule future matchups. The competition, like the NCAA Tournament in March, includes First Round, Second Round, Sweet 16, Elite 8 and Final Four pairings.

To avoid ties, shots 1-20 made are worth one point, shots 21-24 are two points and the final attempt counts as three points. The free throw champion will be recognized at the 2011 CollegeInsider.com Awards Banquet at the Final Four in Houston.

Fans and businesses are encouraged to pledge money for each shot made by the coaches. Those interested in sponsoring made shots are asked to email shots@collegeinside.com. For donations, checks should be made payable to the American Heart Association and mailed to: CollegeInside.com, 410 Prospect Street, Norwood, MA 02052.
