NEWARK, Del. - October represents breast
cancer awareness month and all over the country teams of all levels and all
sports will be participating in games to help fight breast cancer. The
University of Delaware field hockey and womens' soccer teams are pairing
together to help support the fight against breast cancer on Friday night at
each team's respective game.
The field hockey team is taking on Pacific at Rullo Stadium starting at 6 p.m.
while the womens' soccer team will battle Old Dominion at Delaware Mini Stadium
starting at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to each game in support of
breast cancer awareness.
At the field hockey game, fathers who attend the game with their daughter will
receive a $1 admission fee. All females in attendance will also only be charged
one dollar. The Under Armour Power in Pink program is sponsoring the game, as
each team will be supplied specialized equipment for the contest.
Also a game voucher will be distributed to all fans at the end of the game for
BOGO to the Delaware football game against Maine on Saturday, October 9 at 1
p.m. In addition, Pink Cockpit tie-dye t-shirts will be given away to the first
150 Delaware students in attendance.
The soccer team will be participating in the Kicks Against Breast Cancer game
against Old Dominion in Colonial Athletic Association action. At the end of the
match, vouchers will be distributed to all fans at the end of the game for BOGO
to the Delaware football game against Maine on Saturday, October 9 at 1 p.m.
The Kicks Against Breast Cancer contests honors the memory of Claudia Mayer,
who died of breast cancer at the age of 47 in 1996. Claudia was a woman who
displayed extraordinary courage as she battled the disease that eventually took
her life. The foundation raises money and gives full profits to the Claudia
Mayer Cancer Resource Center at Howard Country General Hospital, a division of
Johns Hopkins Medicine.
Sunday's matchup against William & Mary is the "Dare to be a Blue Hen"
Giveaway Game starting at 1 p.m. "Dare to be a Blue Hen" Delaware soccer rally
towels will be distributed to the first 200 fans in attendance.
