NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware athletics is proud to host its inaugural Service Appreciation Day this Saturday, Sept. 11, at Delaware Stadium as part of the Delaware vs. South Dakota State football game at 1 p.m.

The event gives the University of Delaware the opportunity to thank local men and women who serve our country and community. Delaware has invited all veterans, military, police, fire, and EMS service personnel and their families to enjoy the excitement of Delaware football and purchase discounted tickets for $10 per person, a savings of $17 per ticket. Proper identification is required.

Service Appreciation Day tickets must be purchased at least 24 hours in advance by visiting the UD Athletic Ticket Office in Room 101 Delaware Field House or by calling 302-831-2257.

In addition to the game, among the festivities taking place is a pre-game flyover by a Delaware Air National Guard C-130 aircraft manned by aircrew from the 166th Airlift Wing in New Castle, Del., a halftime performance by The Fife and Drum Corps of the Delaware Militia, and performances by the UD Marching Band and over 1,200 high school band members as part of Band Day presented by Louviers Federal Credit Union.

The UD Fan Zone, an area in front of Delaware Stadium that provides live music by Speaker City, entertainment, food, prizes, and merchandise for fans of all ages, will open at 11 a.m.

Delaware, ranked No. 16 in the nation by The Sports Network, will be looking to improve to 2-0 after opening the 2010 season with a 31-0 win over West Chester last Thursday. South Dakota State, ranked No. 9 nationally, will be playing its season opener after advancing to the NCAA Tournament last season.
