WILMINGTON, N.C. - UNCW's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Team Teal organizers were among the hundreds of participants at the beginning-of-the-year Involvement Carnival on Wednesday.  Nearly 4,000 students gathered on the Campus Commons for the event.

Volunteers for SAAC handed out fall sports schedules to passing students, while promoting the upcoming seasons and events. The group's goal for the carnival was to promote the upcoming sports seasons, connect with the student body, and gain support for campus athletics. Rodney Young, SAAC advisor, headed up the effort to "get students excited about the upcoming athletic year."

One event promoted at the carnival was the CAA Blood Drive Challenge. SAAC conducts the biggest blood drive on campus each year, with hopes of registering more than 250 donors to benefit the Red Cross. The challenge takes place on Sept. 23 from 11:30 am-4:00 pm at Trask Coliseum.

SAAC is comprised of student- athletes from all 19 athletic teams on campus.  The group promotes the wellbeing of student-athletes while acting as a supportive link between the athletes and the administration.

Mike Vaccaro, assistant director of Seahawk Sports Marketing, was on hand to sign up new members for Teal Teal, UNCW's fan rewards program.
