FAIRFAX, Va. - On Jan. 12, 2010 a devastating earthquake hit Haiti, causing massive destruction. Daniel Palumbo, a member of the George Mason's Baseball team and the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), lead Mason's effort to raise money for Haiti.

Daniel partnered Mason's efforts with an and initiative called "Pitch Hit for Haiti" which was started by a baseball player at Elon named Mike Melillo, with a goal of having every NCAA baseball player contribute $1 toward the relief efforts.

Dan and SAAC encouraged each team to have its student-athletes donate $1 to help with the relief efforts in the region. In addition to collecting money, some teams also collected canned goods to help Haiti. The money and canned goods were donated to the Red Cross.
