WILMINGTON, N.C. - The UNCW softball team's "Pink Game" last Saturday with visiting Delaware held special meaning for the Seahawks.

Vivian Sykes, mother of sophomore outfielder Laura Sykes, is battling cancer and threw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the doubleheader with the Blue Hens.

The Seahawks donned pink shirts and pink stockings to commemorate the day, and special items such as wrist bands, head bands and bracelets were sold to benefit the American Cancer Society's efforts to stamp out breast cancer.
