WILMINGTON, N.C. - Longtime UNC Wilmington supporter David "Ace" Potter capped a successful fund-raising effort over the weekend when his ticket was drawn as the winner of a 14-foot Edgewater Boat raffled off by the Seahawk athletic department.

Potter was declared the winner in a halftime drawing during UNCW's men's basketball game against William & Mary. The raffled generated more than $10,000 toward scholarships for UNCW's student-athletes. Over 400 of the $25 tickets were sold to Seahawk supporters.

"The boat raffle was a department-wide effort to raise additional funds for student-athlete scholarships," said UNCW Athletics Director Kelly Mehrtens. "I would like to thank David Floyd of Atlantic Marine Sales for his generous donation of the boat. Selling over 400 tickets was a total team effort by our student-athletes, the Seahawk Club Board of Directors, our coaches and staff.

"I also want to congratulate "Ace" Potter on winning the much sought-after prize. I have already begun checking my calendar for available dates for Ace and I to take the maiden voyage."

The event was the first of its kind for the department and was another successful venture as UNCW continues to augment its scholarship resources. In February, the department held its first "Dancing with the Wilmington Stars: Seahawk Style" and generated over $110,000 dollars for the scholarship fund.
