HARRISONBURG, Va. - For the second year in a row, JMU sends a team to the APPLE Conference January 22-24, 2010: Charlottesville, Virginia.
Four student-athletes (Raymond Brown(Football) Matt Goff (FB), Dominique White (FB) and Diane Wszalek (W. Soccer) along with 2 university administrators Tiffany Hall (CHAMPS/ Life Skills Director) and Tia Mann (Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist) attended the 2010 APPLE Conference.
The JMU APPLE Team has enhanced their 2009 APPLE plan and will continue to implement efforts towards improving "Expectations and Attitudes" amongst the student-athlete population at JMU. A brief description of the JMU APPLE team action plan is to Implement educational programs and opportunities for student-athletes to establish positive/proactive behaviors in regards to substance use/abuse while simultaneously building a cohesive community amongst the JMU student-athlete population.
Some projects the APPLE Team will be completing (with the help of SAAC) by 2011 include Certified Peer Education Training( BACCHUS), Peer Education presentation on Expectations and Attitudes "Step up or Go Home", Social Marketing Campaign, Substance Free Tailgate Spring 2010 and Fall 2010.
