RICHMOND, Va. - As many of you may already know, on January 12, 2010, a massive earthquake struck in the heart of Haiti, reducing much of the country's already unstable infrastructure to rubble and leaving hundreds of thousands either dead or displaced.

In the wake of this horrible tragedy all the world has been called forth to extend a hand and offer aid to those individuals who find themselves in such profound need.
This call has not fallen on deaf ears.

Last week, VCU Athletics sponsored a silent auction, which raised a total of $5,000 to be dispersed to the American Red Cross the relief efforts in Haiti. We want to extend our humblest thanks to all of our auction's participants as well as our loyal fans for your compassion and support during these difficult times.

A special thanks goes to out to those who donated their time and items: Greg Burton and ESPN Radio 950, Wes McElroy and Sports Radio 910, Doubletree Downtown Richmond, the Richmond Flying Squirrels, Scott Brown Photography, Cla Meredith and the Colonial Athletic Association.

The winners of those auction items will be contacted this week.
