RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University and William & Mary have joined forces in the fight against cancer.

During their match on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m., the Rams and Tribe will host “Play for a Cure” to raise money for cancer research.

VCU will hold a raffle at halftime, and donations will be accepted during the match. Raffle prizes include an iPod Touch, a NikeID Rams Triax Swift watch, a gift certificate to Outback Steakhouse and a VCU Field Hockey polo shirt.

In addition, the first 100 fans in attendance will receive free VCU Athletics Pink Zone t-shirts, courtesy of the Massey Cancer Center.

VCU and W&M have dedicated Sunday’s match to Dave Long, the father of William & Mary graduate Maggie Long, who is currently battling lung cancer. Maggie is a former teammate and close friend of VCU Head Coach Kelly McQuade and Assistant Coach Shannon Karl. Maggie is currently an assistant field hockey coach at Monmouth University. Meredith Long, Maggie’s sister, played at the University of Maryland and is an assistant coach with Towson University.

Both teams will also wear special yellow warm-up shirts with Dave Long’s initials on the back.
