Communications Assistant

Job Description: The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), an NCAA Division I Athletics conference, is seeking a motivated, hard-working and enthusiastic individual for the position of Communications Assistant. The candidate must have a strong work ethic, a goal of working in the athletics communications field, able to manage multiple projects at a time and have the ability to work nights and weekends as required.  The position will run from approximately July 15, 2013-June 15, 2014 with a possibility of renewal for the 2014-15 academic year based on performance.

Responsibilities:
-- Serve as a liaison between the league and campus/local/national media and the primary contact for assigned sports (media & public relations duties, statistics compilation, website/social/creative media content, travel to select championships, etc.).

-- Assist in all aspects of in-office communications activity and at various league championships. -- Responsible for updating a majority of the CAA’s official website (CAASports.com).

-- Contribute creative content for the league’s official blog sites powered by NBC Sports (wordpress.com) as well as various league social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.).

-- Collaborate closely with the Video Services department for pre- and post-event and feature stories/content.

Qualifications (Required): Applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree, and at least one year of experience in collegiate athletics communications. Must have strong writing, editing, computer and oral communication skills. Must be knowledgeable in AP Style writing. Must have desktop publishing experience and be knowledgeable in Photoshop, InDesign and other Adobe Creative Suite applications. Must have knowledge of various web software programs, game operations and various Stat Crew statistical programs.

Qualifications (Preferred): Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related field and at least two years of experience in collegiate athletics communications. A high level of proficiency with computers and various forms of “digital media” is strongly preferred.

Salary/Employment Term/Benefits:  A monthly salary of $1200 in addition to medical and dental coverage fully paid by the Conference Office. If insurance is declined, an additional $150 is provided. The employment term of the internship is up to eleven (11) months.
