William and Mary junior Alex Smith and UNC Wilmington senior Vladimir Kuljanin were chosen to represent Panama and Canada in the 2007 Pan-American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Virginia Commonwealth University junior point guard Eric Maynor is awaiting the announcement of the United States Pan-American Games basketball team on Sunday, July 15.

Smith is currently in Panama City training with the national team in preparation for the Pan-American Games.  He averaged 7.3 points per game on 42 percent shooting from the floor to go along with 3.0 rebounds per contest in 26.3 minutes of action during the Chile Top 4 Tournament. Smith turned in his top game of the tournament in the finale, recording 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor in 36 minutes against host Chile.

Smith enjoyed a breakout season for the College in 2006-07, helping W&M to its best season in nearly a decade. He appeared in all 30 contests, earning four starts and finishing with season averages of 5.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. He tallied double figures on five occasions during his sophomore campaign, including a career-high 16 at Delaware. Smith also led the Tribe in rebounding on eight occasions.

Kuljanin, a Toronto resident who averaged a team-leading 13.6 points and 7.1 rebounds in his third season with the Seahawks last year, raised eyebrows during Canada Basketball's first summer training camp at Durham College in Oshawa two weeks ago.

Maynor accepted an invitation to participate in the USA Basketball Men’s Pan American Games Team Trials July 12-14 at Haverford College (Pa.). He is one of 32 players vying for 12 roster spots. The team will be announced on Sunday, July 15.

Maynor was a First Team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection this past season and was named Most Valuable Player of the CAA Tournament. Maynor was first in the CAA and fifth in Division I with 6.40 assists per game. He set a VCU single-season record with 224 assists. Maynor led the CAA with 3.07 assist/turnover ratio. He averaged 13.9 points and 4.2 rebounds for the Rams as a sophomore.

The Pan-American Games begin July 13 with the men’s basketball portion of the schedule slated to start July 25-29. The Pan-American Games will be aired on ESPN Deportes.
