PHILADELPHIA - On Friday, July 24th, all seven Drexel basketball freshmen traveled to Berwyn, PA to participate in Sibling’s Day at the Timothy School.

The school was founded in 1966 and is dedicated to the advancement of students of local school districts who have autism.  Sibling’s Day is the highlight of their summer because the students bring their siblings to school to participate in sports, art, and other activities.

Derrick Thomas, Fiona Flanagan, Shannon Givens, Ashley Davis, Daryl McCoy, Taylor Wooten, and Hollie Mershon (The Freshman Drexel basketball players) worked with over 200 students that day, teaching them how to shoot, dribble, pass, and simply enjoy the game of basketball.

After going through each of the skill stations with the students, the Drexel student-athletes finished the day with an exciting game against the Timothy School Tornados basketball team who showcased their skills and pulled off a crowd pleasing win against the Drexel Dragons!

As Derrick Thomas stated, “While our experience with these kids helped teach them the game of basketball, we learned to appreciate what we have through their uplifting attitudes at the same time”.

Plans are in place to have the Timothy School students, families and staff attend basketball games in Dragon country this upcoming season!  Go Tornados!
