Colonial Athletic Association student-athletes and advisors gathered for the league's 2010 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Leadership Summit on November 7-8 in the Wilmington, N.C. area.  The theme of this year's CAA SAAC meeting was "Step Up" and the student-athlete leaders were challenged to share with their peers the information from the weekend.  

The first day featured a workshop presented by University of Virginia facilitators Phil Gates and Jason Shaffer. During this workshop, the student-athletes and advisors learned bystander intervention techniques, which can be used when someone is in need of assistance.

The second day of the event began with Commissioner Tom Yeager meeting with the student-athletes, while the advisors had a roundtable discussion. After the two meetings, the group met as a whole to discuss hot topics including sportsmanship, ideas to enhance CAA Championships, recognition of CAA senior student-athletes, student-athlete welfare issues, the CAA website, priority registration for student-athletes, the Student Assistance Fund, and a review of selected proposed NCAA legislation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, student-athlete leaders were challenged to bring back topics and best-practices discussed at the meeting to the campus level.  Once they meet with their respective peers the student-athletes are scheduled to report positive changes on campus back to the conference office so that the results can be shared with the CAA Athletic Directors from around the league.
