RICHMOND, Va. (February 19, 2014) – The CAA has recognized seven men’s and women’s tennis players for outstanding performances last week.

Drexel junior Badr Ouabdelmoumen (Rabat, Morocco), William & Mary senior Ben Guthrie (Plano, Texas) and the UNCW duo of senior Rafael Aita (Lima, Peru) and Sam Williams (Bristol, England) earned CAA men’s tennis honors. Receiving recognition on the women’s side were James Madison junior Taylor Pinchoff (Sylvan Lake, Mich.) and the JMU tandem of sophomore Cara Wirth (Reading, Pa.) and junior Sarah Khan (Islamabad, Pakistan).

Ouabdelmoumen was selected as the CAA men’s tennis Co-Player of the Week after improving to 6-0 at No. 1 singles with a pair of victories last week. The junior got past Washi Gervais of St. Francis (Pa.), 6-4, 6-5 (1), in a 5-2 triumph over the Red Flash and then outlasted Hernan Vasconez of Temple, 6-5 (4), 3-6, 6-1 in a narrow 4-3 win over the Owls.

Guthrie also received Co-Player of the Week honors after losing just two games while recording a pair of victories at the No. 1 singles spot last week. The senior blanked Binghamton’s Robin Lesage, a first-team All-America East selection in 2013, 6-0, 6-0, and then bounced Villanova’s Thomas O’Brien, 6-0, 6-2. Guthrie has captured seven of his past eight matches and improved to 5-1 at the No. 1 singles position.

Aita and Williams were honored as the CAA men’s Doubles Team of the Week after dominating a pair of opponents at No. 1 doubles last week. The duo topped the College of Charleston’s Charlie Ghriskey and Brice Allanic, 8-3, in the Seahawks’ 7-0 win over the Cougars, and were ahead of Mercer’s Olivier Snaider and Austin Emmet, 7-2, when the match was halted as UNCW won 6-1. Aita and Williams are ranked No. 49 nationally by the ITA.

Pinchoff was named the CAA women’s tennis Player of the Week after defeating George Mason’s Morgan Yang, 6-4, 6-2, and Washington & Lee’s Sonja Meighan, 6-4, 5-7, 11-9 at the No. 1 singles position. The wins were her first two of the spring dual season and helped JMU to victories over the Patriots (5-0) and Generals (8-1).

Wirth and Khan earned Doubles Team of the Week accolades after posting a pair of victories last week. The duo rolled past Mason’s Brittany Pilkington and Ashley Delaney, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 1 position and then edged W&L’s Meghan Buell and Chelsea Mixon, 9-7, at the No. 2 spot.
