W&M Women Claim 2013 CAA Cross Country Title

COCKEYSVILLE, Md. (Nov. 2, 2013) – William & Mary placed the first 5 runners and seven overall in the top-10 to capture its second straight CAA Women’s Cross Country Championship – the program’s 19th overall -- on Saturday at Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville, Md. The Tribe concluded the event with 15 points, while the next two closest teams, JMU and Delaware had 81 and 86 points, respectively.

Northeastern finished fourth with 106 points, followed by College of Charleston (150), Towson (155), UNCW (159) and Hofstra (229).

William & Mary senior Elaina Balouris won her second straight individual title, completing the six-kilometer course in a time of 21:17.11 to capture the individual title and Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet honors. Fellow Tribe member Emily Stites was just steps behind, taking runner-up honors with a time of 21:17.30.

William & Mary rounded out the individual top-5 with senior Michelle Britto’s third-place finish (21:36.73), Meghan McGovern’s fourth-place effort (21:44.61) and Dylan Hassett’s fifth-place mark of 21:52.23.

Other women’s runners earning All-CAA status this year include: Lucy Young, Northeastern (22:06.27); Carolyn Hennessey, William & Mary (22:15.64); Elizabeth Tauber, Towson (22:16.09); Emily Gispert, William & Mary (22:17.95); Erica Amatori, William & Mary (22:27.04); Meghan Malloy, JMU (22:44.23); and Tessa Mundell, JMU (22:50.32).

With the conference race now at a close, next up for the CAA squads are the NCAA Regionals on Friday, Nov. 15.
