Tarik Hislop • James Madison

Silver Spring, Md./Paint Brush, Sr., Guard

Hislop earns CAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Dukes to a 2-1 record at the Cancun Challenge during the Thanksgiving holiday. She averaged a team-high 24.7 points per game, including a career-high 32 points against Green Bay in overtime.  Hislop also scored 30 points in JMU's win over Wichita State, including converting twice on one-and-one free throws in the final 15.5 secons to clinch the win. The senior guard shot nearly 46 percent from the floor (28-for-61) and 85 percent from the free throw line (17-for-20). Hislop also added seven assists and six steals during her 114 minutes of action. The senior also was honored by ESPNW as a National Player of the Week for her efforts in Cancun.  


Rachel Pearson • Drexel

West Chester, Pa./Archbishop Carroll, Fr., Guard

Pearson was named CAA Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week after coming off the bench to help the Dragons to their first in-season tournament victory since the Big Apple Classic in December 2000. The freshman came off the bench to lead all scorers with 19 points in Drexel's 76-40 victory over UMKC. She shot 7-for-9 (.778) from the floor in the game, including 5-for-6 from beyond the three-point arc. Pearson's 19 points are the most for a Drexel freshman since Gabriela Marginean scored 28 in the CAA first round against Georgia State on March 8, 2007. Pearson finished the week averaging 11.0 points per game to go along with two rebounds, three assists and one steal.

CAA 4-1-1:

        •      The 11 league members have posted a 28-22 record early in the season against non-conference foes.

        •      James Madison earned an overtime victory over Wisconsin-Green Bay during the first day of the Cancun Challenge on Thursday. Green Bay was ranked No. 1 in the Mid-Major poll and was receiving votes in the AP and Coaches polls.

        •      James Madison's Tarik Hislop was named ESPNW's National Player of the Week on Nov. 26 after her outstanding performance in the Cancun Challenge.

        •      Drexel's Hollie Mershon and Georgia State's Cody Paulk were named MVP of their respective tournaments after outstanding play over the weekend.

        •      The CAA Women's Basketball Championship will return to the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Maryland in 2013 for the third straight season.

        •      Delaware fell out of the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Top 25 Polls on Nov. 19, but continued to receive votes. The Blue Hens (2-2) played the first three games without national all-star Elena Delle Donne, but she returned to the court for the game against Providence College on Nov. 20 and poured in a game-high 22 points to go along with eight rebounds in her return.
