William & Mary Wins 2012 Men’s CAA Cross Country Championship
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Oct. 27, 2012) - William & Mary edged George Mason by just six points to claim its 13th straight CAA Men's Cross Country championship title Saturday morning at Eastern State Hospital course in Williamsburg, Va. The Tribe's Alex McGrath captured the Most Outstanding Performer award after a first place finish on the 8K course.
William & Mary completed the race with 25 points and Mason followed picking up 31 points for second. Northeastern earned third place with 68 points, while UNCW and Hofstra followed at fourth (111) and fifth (155), respectively.
W&M took three of the top five spots with McGrath taking top honors with a time of 24:04.1. Rad Gunzenhauser finished third with a time of 24:31.3 and Josh Hardin came in just steps behind him at fifth with a time of 24:32.2. Also earning All-CAA honors for the Tribe were Joseph LoRusso, in eighth place (24:47.5), and Joshua Mercado-Reigh, in ninth (25:15.2).
Mason had six harriers earn All-CAA honors highlighted by Everett Hackett who was the runner-up overall after posting a time of 24:20.6. Also in the top ten for the Patriots were John Holt (5th- 24:36.5), Robert Reynolds (6th- 24:38.3), and Alex Ott (7th- 24:42). Sean Nestor and Andrew McGreal were the final two Patriots to pick up medals after finishing 11th and 12th.
Northeastern's Stephen Sollowin earned All-CAA honors after finishing 10th by posting a time of 25:16.1.
The CAA squads will look to return to the course next at the NCAA Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 9.
