Peter Roby, the director of athletics at Northeastern, has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee.
Roby replaces Bernard Muir, the former director of athletics at Delaware who accepted a similar position at Stanford in July, creating the opening.
"I am honored and humbled by this tremendous opportunity to serve the membership and represent Northeastern University," Roby said. "I am excited to begin working on this committee."
Roby has been in his current role at Northeastern for five years. Before that, he served the university as the director of the Sport in Society program and as the associate athletics director for student-athlete welfare.
A 1979 graduate of Dartmouth, Roby was the co-captain of the basketball team while earning a degree in government. He went on to be an assistant basketball coach at Stanford, Dartmouth and Army before landing at Harvard.
After three seasons at Harvard, Roby was named the head coach, guiding the Crimson for six seasons. He then took the position of director of U.S. sports marketing for Reebok and was later promoted to director of key account marketing and then vice president of U.S. marketing.
Roby joins the other members of the Division I Men's Basketball Committee: Joe Alleva, LSU director of athletics; Scott Barnes, Utah State director of athletics; Mike Bobinski, committee chair and Xavier director of athletics; Joe Castiglione, Oklahoma director of athletics; Doug Fullerton, Big Sky Conference commissioner; Mark Hollis, Michigan State director of athletics; Judy MacLeod, Conference USA executive associate commissioner; Ron Wellman, Wake Forest director of athletics; and Jamie Zaninovich, West Coast Conference commissioner.
"Peter brings a wealth of basketball experience to the committee, having been a Division I student-athlete, a coach and now an administrator," Bobinski said. "We look forward to his contributions to our group."
