RICHMOND, Va. (April 18, 2007) -- The 2007 Colonial Athletic Association Football schedule was released Wednesday by Commissioner Thomas E. Yeager, and is made up of 132 games over a span of 12 weeks.

“We are excited about the upcoming inaugural CAA Football season,” Yeager said. “Three different CAA Football teams have played for the National Championship in the past four years. Delaware and James Madison claimed the 2003 and 2004 titles making CAA Football the only conference to have two different programs win National Championships in consecutive seasons.”

The inaugural season of CAA Football will feature a total of 96 conference games, beginning Thursday, Aug. 30, when rivals Delaware and William & Mary face off at Walter J. Zable Stadium in Williamsburg, Va. The CAA Football conference’s slate features five intra-division contests for each squad as well as three contests outside of the respective six-team divisions.

“Our teams have won more NCAA Championship games over the past five years than any other FCS conference in the country,” Yeager said. “We also welcome back the reigning Walter Payton Award winner in New Hampshire’s Ricky Santos, one of two National Player of the Year honorees to come out of the conference in the last three years.”

Ten of the league’s 36 non-conference tilts will feature opponents from the Bowl Subdivision classification, including four teams which participated in 2006 Bowl games -- Boston College (Meineke Car Care), Maryland (Champs Sports), Navy (Meineke Car Care) and Virginia Tech (Chick-fil-A). CAA Football non-conference foes also include teams from the Big East, Conference USA, the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Big Ten and the Southeastern Conference. Two CAA Football non-conference contests feature 2006 NCAA Division I Football Championship participants -- Furman and Coastal Carolina.

“A testament to our league’s overall balance is evidenced by having 10 of the 12 members compete in the NCAA Championships over the past six years,” Yeager said. “Our 14 NCAA berths are more than any other conference in the country over the past five seasons, and we are looking forward to continuing this excellence in an exciting inaugural season of CAA Football.”
