HONORS CONTINUE TO ROLL IN FOR CAA BASEBALL STANDOUTS
Honors continued to roll in for CAA baseball players as the league had 12 players and a coach honored by three different organizations.
George Mason junior catcher Chris Henderson (.413, 14 HR, 58 RBI) and Patriots' senior outfielder Scott Krieger (.372, 20 HR, 80 RBI) were chosen to the ProLine Athletic/NCBWA All-America second team. Previously Henderson was named a first-team All-American by Louisville Slugger, while Krieger was chosen to the Louisville Slugger All-America second team.
The ECAC also announced its Division I Baseball All-Stars and selected Henderson as its Player of the Year and Mason's Bill Brown as Coach of the Year. Named to the All-ECAC first team were Henderson, Mason junior first baseman Justin Bour (.339, 17 HR, 66 RBI), and Krieger, James Madison junior outfielder Matt Townsend (.390, 17 HR, 59 RBI) and Dukes' sophomore infielder/pitcher Trevor Knight (.377, 17 HR, 55 RBI). Earning second team All-ECAC accolades were William & Mary senior outfielder Rob Nickle (.351, 14 HR, 60 RBI) and JMU sophomore reliever Kevin Munson (3-3, 9 svs, 2.85 ERA).
The CAA had 12 players named the 2009 ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region squad. Seven players earned first-team honors: George Mason senior pitcher Mike Modica (11-2, 4.34 ERA), Patriots' teammates Henderson, Bour and Krieger, JMU's Munson and Townsend and Towson senior shortstop Gary Helmick (.430, 17 HR, 51 RBI). Chosen to the second team were JMU sophomore pitcher Turner Phelps (8-2, 5.33 ERA) and first baseman Knight, Old Dominion junior third baseman Jake McAloose (.413, 6 HR, 44 RBI), W&M's Nickle and Delaware senior outfielder Bill Merkler (.371, 17 HR, 54 RBI).
