21 CAA Wrestlers Set to Compete at NCAA Wrestling Championships
RICHMOND, Va. (March 19, 2013) - The CAA
has 21 wrestlers scheduled to compete at this weekend's 2013 NCAA Wrestling
Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. Old Dominion, Rider, and Binghamton lead the
way with four wrestlers from each school receiving bids. 2013 CAA Champion
Hofstra and Boston University will each send three wrestlers, while Drexel will
have two representatives and George Mason will have one.
Three CAA wrestlers were seeded when the
brackets were announced. The CAA Championship Most Outstanding Wrestler, Binghamton's
Donnie Vinson (29-1), is the No. 3 seed at 149 pounds. Vinson's teammate Nathan
Schiedel (26-2) earned the No. 7 seed at 197 while ODU's Chris Mecate (34-7)
earned the No. 12 seed at 141.
Joining Vinson and Schiedel from Binghamton
in the championship will be Derek Steeley (15-12) who will be competing for the
title at 133 and Cody Reed (18-13), who will be competing for the title at 184.
Also competing from ODU will be Rob Deutsch (26-9) at 125, Billy Curling
(20-10) at 174, and freshman Alex Richardson (27-12) at 149.
Hofstra will be led by 2012 All-American
Steve Bonanno (17-10), who will compete for the 125 title. Also representing
the Pride will be Jamie Franco (18-13) at 133 and Luke Vaith (21-12) at 141. Wrestlers
from Rider competing for championships will be Jimmy Morris (24-12) at 133, Zac
Cibula (23-10) at 157, Ramon Santiago (29-7) at 165, and Donald McNeil (21-15)
at 197.
Representing Boston University at the
championship will be Dane Harlow (9-5) at 133, Nestor Taffur (33-5) at 157, and
Kevin Innis (21-6) at heavyweight. Drexel will have Frank Cimato (30-9)
competing at 141, and Brandon Palik (24-4) at 197. George Mason will have Jacob
Kettler (22-17) wrestling at heavyweight.
