CAA Swimming Honors ? Feb. 19
RICHMOND, Va. (Feb. 19, 2013) - William
& Mary's Andrew Nyce and Lindsey Winston, and James Madison's Stephanie
Clarke have been selected as the final CAA men's and women's Swimmers of the
Week for the 2012-13 season after strong individual performances at the
Cavalier Invitational last weekend.
Nyce set lifetime-bests in all four events
he competed in at the Cavalier Invitational, including a pair of W&M freshman
records. He set both records in one day, swimming 2:03.97 in the 200 breast in
the morning and 3:58.73 in the 400 IM at night, becoming just the second man in
school history to swim under four minutes in the 400 IM. Nyce followed those
performances up on day two by posting a 57.93 in the 100 breast to pick up a
fifth-place finish, and swam a 1:53.14 in the 200 IM finals to earn second-place
honors. His times rank second in school history in the 400 IM and fourth in the
200 breast.
Winston swam only two events at the
Cavalier Invitational, but recorded collegiate-bests in both. She posted a time
of 1:52.70 in the prelims of the 200 free, ranking her 11th in
school history. In the evening, rather than compete in finals, she time-trialed
the 100 breast. Her performance of 1:04.83 was just behind the freshman record,
and ranks eighth in school history. It was the fifth fastest time recorded in
the CAA this season.
Clarke picks up her first Swimmer of the
Week honor of the season after posting three top-three finishes at the Cavalier
Invitational, and helping the Dukes win the overall team title. Clarke posted
third-place finishes in in the 100 and 200 back finals, while also setting
record times in the races' prelims. She posted a time of 2:02.35 in the 200
back, which was the third-fastest in school history. She also swam a 56.27 in
the 100 back prelim, which was the second fastest time in school history.
Clarke's top finish of the weekend was in the 100 fly as she took home second-place
honors with a time of 56.07, which was the fourth-fastest time in school
history.
All nine CAA squads will be back in action
