Five CAA Field Hockey Players Tabbed as NFHCA All-Americans
RICHMOND,
Va. (November 20, 2012) - Five CAA field hockey players were selected to the
National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-America team, with
Northeastern's Crystal Poland
highlighting the list as a first-team All-American. Drexel's Amanda Fleischut and ODU's Christy Longacre picked up second-team
All-America honors, while ODU's Sarah
Breen and Northeastern's Deirdre
Duke were named to the third team.
Poland
adds to her already impressive list of accomplishments from this season with
her third career All-America award, and her second first-team honor. The senior
forward finished the season ranked third in the nation in goals per game (1.40)
and fourth in points per game (3.15), while leading the CAA with 28 goals and
63 points. Poland was named the 2012 CAA Player of the Year as well as the
NFHCA Northeast Region Player of the Year.
Fleischut
earns her first All-America award after leading Drexel to its first ever CAA
Championship and the program's second appearance in the NCAA tournament. The
senior midfielder led the Dragons' offense with 11 goals and eight assists for
a team-high of 30 points. Fleischut was also named the CAA Championship Most
Outstanding Performer in addition to All-CAA first team honors and NFHCA
Mid-Atlantic Region first team honors.
Longacre
earns her first All-America honor after being named the 2012 CAA Defensive
Player of the Year, and picking up All-CAA first team honors and NFHCA South
Region first team honors. The junior defender was a key component in a Lady
Monarchs' defense that allowed just seven goals in seven CAA contests and
recorded two shutouts. Longacre also made her presence felt on the ODU offense,
ranking third on the team with 10 goals and adding four assists.
Breen
also earns her first All-America award after sensational rookie campaign at
ODU. The freshman forward/midfielder ranked second on the team with 12 goals,
while also adding eight assists. In addition to the All-America award, Breen
has also been honored this season as a member of the All-CAA first team and the
NFHCA South Region first team.
Duke,
the 2012 CAA Rookie of the Year, picks up her first All-America honor after
ranking second in the CAA with 14 goals and 34 points. The Dublin, Ireland
native was also honored on the All-CAA First Team as well as the NFHCA
Northeast Region First Team.
In
addition to the NFCHA All-America awards, Breen, Duke, Fleischut, Longacre and
Poland were also tabbed as All-Americans by WomensFieldHockey.com.
