Robertson, Williams Added to National Watch Lists
RICHMOND, Va. - A pair of CAA Football standouts in James Madison's Stephon
Robertson and Delaware's Jeff Williams have been added to the Buck Buchanan and
Jerry Rice Watch Lists, respectively, as recently announced by the Sports
Network. See the "Quick Links" section to the right for a link to video
highlights of both players.
A preseason All-America and All-CAA selection, Robertson has
recorded a team-high 92 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and five pass breakups in
10 games this season. The redshirt junior linebacker has started all 33 games
in his three-year career, totaling an impressive 295 tackles during his time in
Harrisonburg. A native of Alexandria, Va., Robertson has emerged as a force for
a Dukes defensive unit that leads the league in scoring defense (19.0 points
per game) and ranks second in total defense (320 yards per game).
Robertson joins three CAA Football seniors in New Hampshire
linebacker Matt Evans, Richmond safety Cooper Taylor and William and Mary
cornerback B.W. Webb on the 20-member watch list for the Buchanan Award, which
honors the most outstanding defensive player in FCS Football.
Williams has made an immediate impact in his rookie season
with the Blue Hens, racking up 13 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks to lead the
league in both categories. The redshirt freshman linebacker also ranks second
on the squad behind senior standout Paul Worrilow with 58 total tackles.
The Freeport, N.Y., native is in good company on the Rice
Watch List as well after fellow conference rookies in W&M linebacker Luke
Rhodes and Villanova quarterback John Robertson were named to the 20-member list
earlier this season. The Jerry Rice Award honors the FCS national freshman of
the year.
Both awards will be voted on by a national panel of sports
information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other
dignitaries following the regular season. The awards will be presented on Dec.
17 at the FCS Awards Banquet and Presentation in Philadelphia.
