CAA Swimming and Diving Honors ? Nov. 6
RICHMOND,
Va. (Nov. 6, 2012) - Old Dominion's Sidni Hoxha and William & Mary's Andrew
Strait have been named the CAA men's Co-Swimmers of the week, while Towson's
Kaitlin Burke was named the Women's Swimmer of the Week following numerous
individual victories at last weekend's CAA Pod Meets in Norfolk, Va. and
Newark, Del. Diver of the Week honors went to Towson's Alex Cohen and JMU's
Kimberly Helfrich.
Hoxha
collects his first Swimmer of the Week award after three individual victories
against George Mason and Towson. He won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.27 and the 50
free with a time of 20.51. Hoxha also cruised to a victory in the 100 freestyle
(45.47) and was a part of the winning 200 freestyle relay team with teammates
Eddie Hubert, Ben Leach, Ben Hansen (1:25:16). The Monarchs also picked up
their first two team victories of the season with a 222-131 triumph over the
Patriots, and a 233-118 victory over the Tigers.
Strait
picks up his second Swimmer of the Week award after finishing undefeated last
weekend at the CAA Pod Meet against UNCW and Delaware, sweeping all three of
his individual events. He posted a time of 56.20 in the 100 breast, which was
the third-fastest performance ever at W&M, and swam a season-best 1:52.15
in the 200 IM. Strait also won the 200 breast by nearly five seconds with a
time of 2:05.99. In relay action, Strait swam the breaststroke leg on the
Tribe's 200 and 400 medley relays, earning three wins and helping the Tribe to
a 191-156 team victory over Delaware.
Burke
set three new individual pool records en route to being named Women's Swimmer
of the Week for the second time this season.
She won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.73 while capturing
the 500-freestyle in 4:51.91. Burke completed her sweep and set her third pool
record in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time 16:48.32. She was also a part of
two record-setting relay teams by swimming a leg in the winning 400 freestyle
relay (3:28.55), and the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.12).
Cohen
collects his third men's Diver of the Week honor after a first-place finish in
the three-meter dive and a second in the one-meter dive. He scored 274.30
points in the three-meter dive, beating second-place John Schmitz of George
Mason by 11 points. Cohen took second in the one-meter dive with 236.60 points,
just 11 points behind first place Schmitz.
Helfrich
earns her third women's Diver of the Week award after two victories last
weekend. She continued her excellent start to the year by winning all six
events that she has competed in this season. Helfrich finished with scores of
287.95 in the one-meter dive and 322.50 in the three-meter dive.
