of the Week:
Jantien Gunter, So.,
Goalkeeper, Drexel
Gunter anchored the Drexel defense as the Dragons picked
up two victories last week to secure the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage
for the CAA Championship. Gunter made 11 saves in Drexel's important 1-0 win
over No. 10 Northeastern last Friday. It was her sixth shutout of the season
and secured the team's fifth victory over a nationally ranked program. She
continued her strong week by making four saves in a 3-1 win at Hofstra Sunday
afternoon that clinched the No.1 seed for the Dragons. Gunter finished the
regular season with 104 saves, a save percentage of .776, and a 1.57 goals
against average.
CAA Field Hockey Co-Rookie
of the Week:
Emily Harting, Fr., Back, Old Dominion
Harting scored her first collegiate goal on a penalty
stroke in overtime last Wednesday to lift Old Dominion past William and Mary,
3-2. Harting was brought in off the bench in a crucial spot, and her goal
lifted ODU to the win in its first overtime game of the season. The goal gave
head coach Beth Anders a victory in her 700th career game on the sideline.
Harting became the 12th different Lady Monarch to score a goal this season, and
the third freshman to do so.
CAA Field Hockey Co-Rookie
of the Week:
Lauren Hibshman, Fr., Back/Midfielder, Drexel
Hibshman scored the game-winning goal on a penalty
stroke in the second half to help No. 23 Drexel upset No. 10 Northeastern in a
crucial conference game on Friday night. The goal marked her first score of the
season, and her first career collegiate goal. Hibshman finished the regular
season with one goal, three assists, and five points in her first year at
Drexel.

notes:
Three CAA schools
are ranked in the final regular season NFHCA Top 25 national poll (Old Dominion
- 8, Northeastern - 10, Drexel - 18). The CAA was represented with at least
three teams in the top 25 of every poll this season.
William & Mary
enters the CAA Championship as the No. 4 seed despite two close overtime losses
to Old Dominion last week. The Tribe's Pip Saunders scored two goals against
the Monarchs Wednesday night, becoming the only freshman to score more than one
goal in a game against ODU this season.
Old Dominion
clinched the CAA regular season championship Saturday evening after posting an
undefeated 7-0 record in conference play. This is the second year in a row that
the Lady Monarchs have finished CAA play undefeated and the 15th time in program
history. It's also their 14th CAA regular season title.
Drexel earned the
No. 1 seed for this weekend's CAA championship after a 1-0 victory over
Northeastern last Friday, and a 3-1 win at Hofstra Sunday afternoon. Freshman Lauren
Hibshman scored the game-winning goal while goalie Jantien Gunter made 11 saves
in the victory over the Huskies. As a result of the No. 1 seed, Drexel will
host the CAA Championship at home in Philadelphia at Buckley Field.
Northeastern locked up the No. 2 seed after defeating Towson 6-0 on
Sunday.
Taylor West scored
her fifth game-winning goal of the season last Friday in overtime to give James
Madison a 3-2 victory over Delaware. The win clinched the #3 seed for JMU in
this weekend's CAA championship. Delaware will be the fifth seed.
Hofstra earned the
sixth and final seed for this weekend's CAA Championship after a 2-1 victory
over Towson last Friday. The Pride picked up a goal from Melissa McCarthy in
the ninth minute and Micaela Gallagher tallied the game-winner in the 56th
minute.
