William & Mary?s Captures 2012 CAA Women?s Cross Country Championship
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Oct. 27, 2012) -
William & Mary won its conference-leading 18th Women's Cross
Country Championship Saturday morning at Eastern State Hospital course in
Williamsburg, Va. Elaina Balouris, a Tribe junior, won Most Outstanding Performer after taking
top honors on the 6k course.
The Tribe picked up 28 points edging
James Madison, who finished second by earning 36 points. Delaware (98) took home
third place honors with George Mason (117) coming in fourth. Towson (150) rounded out the
top five followed by UNCW (157), Hofstra (210), and Northeastern (216).
W&M landed seven harriers on the All-CAA
squad highlighted by Balouris who finished with a time of 20:43.1 to set a new
course record. Emily Stites clocked in at third with a time of 21:01.4, while
Jess Cygan finished seventh (21:17.9) and Lanie Smith took eighth (21:32.2).
Also earning All-CAA honors for the Tribe were Clarissa Schick, Michelle
Britto, and Dylan Hassett.
The Dukes placed four on the All-CAA
team with Katie Harman as their top finisher with a second place finish with a time of 20:57.6.
Katie Gorman brought home a top-five finish by crossing the line fourth with a
time of 21:07.2, while Stacey Nobles and Jenna Flickinger rounded out the
All-CAA performers for JMU by finishing sixth and 12th.
Also on the All-CAA team was Bethany
Sachtleben of George Mason who took home fifth place with a time of 21:11.2.
With
the conference race now at a close, CAA squads will return to the course at the
NCAA Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 9.
