CAA Volleyball Offensive
Player of the Week:
Janelle Tucker, Jr.,
OH, Northeastern
Tucker posted back-to-back double-doubles in a pair of CAA
victories. The junior hit .500 with 15 kills on 26 attempts and also made 11
digs in a 3-1 triumph over UNCW last Friday. The Encino, Calif., native
followed that up on Sunday with another double-double against William &
Mary, notching 10 kills and 10 digs. Tucker logged her third and fourth
double-doubles of the season this past weekend.
CAA Volleyball Defensive
Player of the Week:
Ariel Shonk, Fr., L, Delaware
Shonk led the Blue Hens in digs during both of Delaware's
matches on the week. She posted a match-high 15 digs during Tuesday's 3-0 win
over Morgan State, and paced UD with 19 digs in Saturday's 3-0 triumph over
Georgia State. Shonk finished with an average 5.67 digs on the week and leads
all CAA freshman with 293 total digs (5.43 average).
CAA Volleyball Rookie
of the Week:
Dessi Koleva, Fr., OH,
William & Mary
Koleva was the top hitter for the Tribe as W&M went 1-1
last week. The freshman averaged 3.11 kills and 3.33 points per set while
hitting .351 for the weekend. She recorded a match-high 13 kills and made 12
digis in a 3-1 loss to Northeastern and had 15 kills, nine digs and three
blocks in a 3-2 win at Hofstra.
Conference
Notes
Delaware set a school record Tuesday night by giving up
just five points in the first set against Morgan State. It was the fewest
points allowed for the Blue Hens since 25-point rally scoring began in
2001.
Delaware has won 28 of its last 30 home CAA matches dating
back to the 2008 season.
Northeastern currenty holds a 14-match home winning streak
dating back to last season.
Northeastern sophomore Jillian Briner recorded her third
career triple-double Saturday against UNCW with 12 kills, 20 assists, 11 digs.
Towson is currently riding an eight-match win streak
following its win over Georgia State Friday night. It is the longest active
streak in the CAA.
Hofstra junior Nikki Kinnier became only the 13th player
in program history to reach 1,000 career kills after a 21-kill performance
Friday night aginst William & Mary. She now has 1,030 after adding 10 kills
against UNCW on Sunday.
JMU seniors Danielle Erb and Megan Wiechmann both set new
career marks in several catagories over the weekend to move closer to several
school records. Erb moved into seventh place on the school's all-time kills
list and is just three shy of sixth with 1,154. She also moved into ninth on
the aces list with 117, and 10th on the all-time digs list with 989. Wiechmann
moved into fifth on the all-time assists list with 2,568.
