UNCW?s McLeod Named CAA Men?s Golfer of the Week? Sept. 19

RICHMOND, Va. (September 19, 2012) - UNCW junior Payne McLeod earned CAA Men's Golfer of the Week honors after a strong finish at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate.

The junior opened the season with a 12^th place finish at the event hosted by UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C. McLeod carded a 73-72-72-217 (+1) on the par 72, 7,242-yard course and moved up seven spots in the standings on the final day. With his 72.3 average in his opening tournament, McLeod is now just .04 strokes behind UNCW all-time stroke leader Josh Brock (72.99). McLeod's 12^th place finish was his 16^th top-20 finish of his career. The junior led the Seahawks to a sixth place team finish, which played amongst five teams (Duke, N.C. State, East Carolina, Notre Dame and Charlotte) that played in the 2012 NCAA Golf Tournament. UNCW edged ECU, their long-time regional rivals, by two strokes in the Tar Heel Intercollegiate.
