CAA Volleyball Co-Offensive
Player of the Week:
Kelly Bacon, Jr., OH,
Northeastern
Bacon recorded her third and fourth double-double of the
season, posting a career-best 21 kills alongside 15 digs in the 3-1 win over
Boston College. Bacon hit for .357 on 42 attempts against the Eagles. After an
eight kill, six dig performance against Harvard, Bacon's second double-double
came in the form of 12 kills and 10 digs in the tournament-winning performance
against UConn.
CAA Volleyball Co-Offensive
Player of the Week:
Aubrey Kirven, Sr., S,
Towson
Kirven was named the MVP of the Hilton University 49er
Invitational after averaging 14.10 assists per set, which was above her season
and CAA leading average she entered the week (11.78 per set). Kirven recorded
43 assists and seven digs in the win over UNC Asheville. She followed that up
with 46 assists, four digs and two kills in the win over Kennesaw State. Kirven
wrapped up the weekend with her fourth "double-double" of the season. She
posted 52 assists and 13 digs against the 49ers.
CAA Volleyball Defensive
Player of the Week:
Katie Daorai, Sr., L,
James Madison
Daorai helped lead James Madison to a 3-1 record last week
with her play at the libero position. Daorai helped the Dukes limit their
opponents to a .150 attack percentage for the week, collecting 64 digs in just
11 sets played as she was named to the USF Volleyball Invitational
All-Tournament team. She averaged 5.82 digs per set, including tying her
career-high with 31 digs in a four-set win against FIU.
CAA Volleyball Rookie
of the Week:
Dessi Koleva, Fr.,
MB, William & Mary
Koleva was named MVP of the
Colonial Challenge after averaging 2.89 kills and capping her weekend with 14
kills on a .500 attack against Hampton. She led W&M and ranked fourth in
the tournament with a .321 attack over the Tribe's three wins. In addition to
her outstanding effort against Hampton, Koleva also had seven kills (hitting
.312) in two sets against Howard.
Conference
Notes
Hofsra's Nikki Kinnier and Kelsie
Wills earned all-tournament honors at the Columbia Invitational. It is the
third all-tournament accolade of the season for Wills and the second for
Kinnier.
Hofstra played three straight five set
matches over the weekend. It marked the
first time since September 27-October 4, 2008 that the Pride have had three
straight matches go five sets.
George Mason's Lana Zonjic was named to
the All-Tournament Team at the Penn Invitational.
Georgia State's Sydney Hunsley was
named to the All-Tournament Team at the Georgia Tech Classic.
UNCW sophomore McKenzie Keightley was
named to the All-Tournament Team at the Spartan Spiketacular. Keightley averaged 2.17
kills and turned in a .382 hitting percentage.
William & Mary has already matched
last season's win total just halfway through the regular season.
CAA conference play begins Friday night
(Sept. 21) with all nine teams in action over the weekend.
Towson stretched their current win
streak to four matches as they went 3-0 and captured the Hilton University 49er
Invitational this weekend. It was the third tournament title won by the Tigers
this season. Senior Aubrey Kirven was named the tournament MVP after averaging
14.10 assists per set. Katy Buck and I'ishah Keliikoa were also named to the
all-tournament team.
Northeastern continues to roll
through the first half and closed out the non-conference portion of the
schedule by sweeping the New England Classic tournament last weekend with
triumphs over Boston College (3-1), Harvard (3-0), and Connecticut (3-0).
Junior hitter Kelly Bacon registered a double-double in two of three contests
this past weekend and attained a career-best 21 kills against Boston College on
Friday night.
William & Mary defended their
home court and captured the Colonial Challenge this past weekend. The Tribe
picked up victories over Elon (3-1), Howard (3-0), and Hampton (3-0).
