CAA Men?s Soccer, Volleyball, and Field Hockey Kickoff This Weekend
RICHMOND, Va. (August 24, 2012) - The 2012 CAA fall sports
slate will kick into high gear this weekend as men's soccer, volleyball, and
field hockey begin play all across the country.
FIELD HOCKEY
The CAA field hockey season begins today with seven teams in
action highlighted by #3 Old Dominion facing #9 Penn State in State College,
Pa. at 5:00 p.m. #24 Drexel starts the season by hosting #5 Duke while #21
Northeastern begins its 2012 campaign on the road at Louisville at 7:00 p.m.
Other games on tap include Hofstra taking on Fairfield, JMU versus Vermont
Delaware against #14 Boston University and Towson at Sacred Heart.
Sunday's field hockey schedule will be highlighted by Old
Dominion taking on #25 American while Delaware battles #19 Albany.
MEN'S SOCCER
The men's soccer season kicks off at 1:00 p.m. today as defending
CAA champion Delaware travels to UMass. William & Mary and James Madison
begin their seasons with in-state tournaments with the Tribe taking on Butler
at the VCU Tournament and the Dukes squaring off against Richmond at the
Virginia Tech Tournament. Other Friday openers include UNCW taking on in-state
rival UNCG, Northeastern against Providence, Towson hosting Monmouth and
Jacksonville at Georgia State.
Old Dominion starts its 2012 campaign Saturday evening when
Navy comes to town for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. Hofstra opens its season at Lehigh
and Drexel entertains La Salle.
George Mason hosts LIU Brooklyn to start the season on
Sunday.
VOLLEYBALL
The CAA volleyball slate begins today with all nine teams in
action in tournament play. Hofstra, JMU, and UNCW will kick things off this
weekend with home tournaments. The Pride will open play this morning against
Providence and will play their second game of the season tonight versus
Fairleigh Dickinson. The Dukes will begin play tonight in the JMU Days Inn Invitational
against Appalachian State and will continue tomorrow with matches against
Minnesota and Seton Hall.
The Seahawks open the UNCW Courtyard Wilmington Beach Bash
tonight against High Point and continue play tomorrow against Delaware State
and LIU Brooklyn. William & Mary travels to Durham, N.C. for the Duke
Invitational for matches against Duke tonight, and Fairfield and
Wisconsin-Milwaukee tomorrow.
Preseason favorite Northeastern will open its season tonight
in the Beanpot Classic against Alabama. The Huskies will continue play tomorrow
against Holy Cross and Sacred Heart. Towson also stays close to home as it
opens with UMBC in the Battle at the Bay Tournament in Baltimore. George Mason
takes on local rival George Washington on Saturday to start the D.C. Volleyball
Challenge.
Delaware kicks off its 2012 campaign out West at the San
Diego State Tournament. The Blue Hens begin play tonight against San Diego
State, and will take on #17 California tomorrow. Georgia State faces Troy in its first match
in the Bulldog Invitational in Athens, Ga.
CAA women's soccer season starts week two of play tonight
with eight teams in action. The first CAA Football contest will be played on
Thursday, August 30, while cross country starts on Saturday, September 1.
